In the beginning of the series, Guy of Gisborne was portrayed as ruthless and powerhungry. He wouldn't hesitate to murder or torture people if the situation required it and was sometimes regarded as being almost as bad as Vaisey. He possessed a great hatred of Robin Hood and frequently tried to kill him and also had a rivalry with him over Marian, though Guy didn't know for sure that Marian and Robin were in love until the last episode of series 2.

However Guy wasn't completely heartless as he was in love with Marian who appeared to feel some degree of affection for him in return. When Marian told Guy she was in love with Robin, Gisborne was both enraged and heartbroken and before he could stop himself stabbed Marian through the torso. However he was devistated by what he'd done and though Marian was dead, his guilt about killing her helped Guy's good side shine through and he ultimately became a member of Robin's gang. He was also less sadistic than Vaisey and usually only caused pain when he had to, unlike Vaisey who caused pain when he wanted to. Guy also hated the idea of killing children.

As they were related through their half brother Archer, Robin and Guy felt a new bond forming between them and during the last episode Robin actually referred to Guy as a friend.
